Android’s October Update: Check the Patch Date.
Google’s October 5 Android bulletin addresses critical vulnerabilities. Check the security patch date, separate Play system update, and your device’s support status.

TL;DR
- —Google published the October Android security bulletin on October 5.
- —Check the Android security update and Google Play system update dates separately.
- —Rollout and support depend on your device. A browser tool cannot certify its operating-system patch status.
Android’s version number is only part of its update status. Check which field “up to date” describes. Google published its October Android security bulletin on October 5, 2026. It describes critical System vulnerabilities that can raise a local attacker’s privileges without user interaction. The Framework section also lists CVE-2026-58865, a critical remote denial-of-service issue. Those are different effects: a service disruption is not evidence of stolen data, and a local privilege escalation is not a blanket claim that any website can remotely take over every phone. Affected versions vary across the listed issues. Google associates the platform fixes with a 2026-10-01 or later security patch level. Device and chipset vendors can publish additional issues separately. That date is useful evidence for the bulletin’s scope, not a guarantee covering every component or future vulnerability. Read the fields separately Google’s update guide lists Settings → About phone/tablet → Android version. Manufacturer menus can differ. Field / What to record
Android version / OS version.
Android security update / Installed patch date.
Google Play system update / Separate system-update date.
Build number / Installed-build identifier. Record the model and fields before contacting support. Ask whether that exact build includes the October fixes. Install the update, then check again Check Settings → System → Software updates, or your manufacturer’s equivalent. Prepare with Wi-Fi and at least 75% battery. Complete any requested restart. Google says Pixel Android updates activate after restarting; many other devices restart during installation. Record the dates afterward. A download notification alone does not establish that installation finished. A general Pixel walkthrough Google Help’s general Pixel tutorial is linked from the update guide. Use it as a walkthrough, rather than evidence that the October fixes are installed on your phone. If October is not available yet Google’s Pixel support page says rollouts are gradual and depend on the device and carrier; arrival can take a few weeks. That is Pixel guidance, not a promised schedule for another manufacturer. Check the official support page for your exact model. Google’s page distinguishes supported Pixel generations from Pixel 5a and earlier phones, which no longer receive Android version or security updates. A missing update can therefore mean something different on a supported model and a model whose support has ended. Ask which situation applies before repeatedly retrying the same screen. For a work-managed phone, give the model, build, and recorded dates to your administrator. Request a rollout or replacement plan when security support has ended; do not assume an app update can supply missing system fixes. Keep patching and privacy checks distinct Our Permission Audit shows supported permission states for this site. It does not inspect other sites’ permissions, Android app permissions, or the installed operating-system patches. For broader privacy tasks, start with the resources page. Keep your update record alongside those checks so each result answers a specific question.
